SafeGuard™ extends the FormationOne architecture to provide seamless connectivity into AWS and other cloud services. It also provides a secure hybrid cloud storage solution, supporting AWS S3 for disaster recovery and AWS Glacier for data archiving. Safeguard supports cloud-based disaster recovery, backup and archive. Hybrid cloud also allows support of Cloud tiering, content distribution and data migration.
Single-Origin Data™ automatically sends duplicate data objects to the same node even when there are 100s of nodes in the domain. That is only one of the benefits of a full content hash. No matter how many times the system copies, clones, replicates, or repurposes the data, it maintains only one fully-protected dataset. A data object (set) can be “associated” with any number of virtual volumes. Single-Origin Data tracks every volume association to ensure security and overall data integrity.
TimeLine™ provides full transactional data journaling (continuous data protection), cloning, and full or incremental snapshots without any additional object data copies or interruption to ongoing workloads. This feature can be automated to copy volumes according to a schedule and restore them to a point-in-time copy through the UI, CLI, or REST API. Hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly per-volume snapshots can be scheduled, with appropriate retention times for each snapshot. Snapshots can be created and deleted via the XDI interface and volumes can be cloned and exposed at any point in time without interrupting workloads on those volumes.
FireBreak™ collects rich telemetry data for the storage system at the per-volume, per-application, and per-domain level via a streaming API. It also collects data on each application’s behavior and performance. This provides storage administrators with a set of tools to monitor system capacity, health, and application performance behavior in real-time.
In addition, FireBreak issues alerts about critical conditions, such as capacity or performance problems, through configurable SMS, email, or SNMP traps. This facilitates early detection and resolution of storage failures. FireBreak sends alerts to the customer and displays them in the UI.
Co-locating multiple workloads and applications on the same data platform often creates a “noisy neighbor” problem. One application might push excess I/O traffic and impact the performance of other applications, and in some cases, bring these other applications to a halt. PriorityOne™ enables administrators to prioritize workloads and dynamically throttle noisy volumes in real time. You set the volume’s performance policy by the guaranteed minimum IOPS and the maximum IOPS allowed, delivering consistent performance regardless of system loading. PriorityOne provides end-to-end quality of service (QoS) that prioritizes traffic at each component along the data path, enabling the ability to deliver performance at massive scale.
Virtual Storage Recapture (VSR) is a storage manager service that runs as a lightweight VM to recapture unused storage capacity on each virtualized server and its attached array(s). The storage nodes in a Formation domain can contain a solid-state disk (SSD) tier, a disk tier, and a public cloud tier. Dynamic data tiering provides policy-based data placement between flash (high performance/high cost), disk (lower performance/lower cost), and cloud media. It determines placement of objects with a unique ranking algorithm.
FormationOne is the only data distribution system that distributes additional (protection) copies of data to reduce the impact of a failure.
